The ration between the ascent and time is 8/9 is to 1/9. To get the rate per minute, your aim is to get an equal ratio using a full minute. A full minute would be 9/9. Now how do we get 9//9, you multiply 1/9 by 9.

[tex] \frac{1}{9}*9 = \frac{9}{9}=1[/tex]

Now to get an equal ration, you need to multiply the ascent by the same factor. So you would multiply 8/9 by 9 as well.

[tex] \frac{8}{9}*9 = \frac{72}{9} =8[/tex]

So the rate would be 8 meters per minute.
