How did texas come to be dominated by american settlers?

The Mexican government knew it needed to settle Texas, so when a guy named Moses Austin approached them asking for permission to bring American settlers in, the mexicans approved it. Moses would die before he could bring the settlers in, but his son, Stephen F. Austin, led three hundred families into Texas. Many more would follow.
