17=-13-8x

add 8 to each side of the equation.

17+8= -13-8x+8

17+8x= -13

add -17 to each side of the equation

-17+17+8x= -13+ (-17)

8x= -13+ (-17)

8x= -30

divide each side by 8

x=-3.75
